Acure Organics: I've been meaning to post this...
By, Shayna Teicher
I keep meaning to post something about this Gel Facial Cleanser with Superfuit and Chlorella Growth Complex and somehow keep getting distracted.
So I’m doing it right now, while I have just a few quiet minutes:
I am LOVING this cleanser. It’s NOT for dry skin- for that, Acure makes a really lovely Cream Cleanser with Olive & Mint- which is good, because my...

Buh-Bye Bobby Pins
By, Shayna Teicher
don’t do a lot with my hair, but I have a handful of looks that seem to work for me. Some days though, I don’t want to deal with my crazy mane and I just twist it up. Most days it ends up that way anyway. Consequently, there are always bobby pinseverywhere. In the bottom of my purse (and in all the little pockets as well), in my makeup bag, on the nightstand, in the...

When is it time to throw out your makeup?
By, Shayna Teicher Dear Beauty Chick,…A lovely customer of mine recently asked me when she should throw out makeup (I’m pretty sure she was in the midst of a “spring cleaning bug” as one has hit me recently as well.) So naturally I said “That’s a great question- I’m so glad you asked!” As much as we hate to throw out cosmetics and skin care products...

Tatcha Aburatorigami Blotting Papers: The Gold...
WHAT’S A BLOTTING PAPER?
When I mention blotting papers I usually get one of two response: “Oh my gosh- I LOVE blotting papers!” OR “What the hec is a blotting paper?” Either way, most people I know who have tried them, end up being hooked, and for good reason.
Essentially, blotting papers are just what they sound like: little sheets of “paper” used to...

Acne, Dairy and Soy: The Killer, The Culprit and...
So…back on June 30th I posted an article from VegFamily.com about the pros, cons, myths and facts about soy. Consider this my follow up. Regardless of whether you suffer from breakouts, if you eat dairy and/or soy, I hope you will read this and find it to be helpful. For those who haven’t heard my story, a huge part of how I ended up opening Butterfly Effect and getting into...

Fulfilling a Shaving Whish
One of my favorite shave creams by Whish got a great review from Steve McAllister of Modern Hippie Mag. For what it’s worth, Steve, I don’t think you need to defend your masculinity at all. After all, only a real man would use whatever works best, without regard for the packaging. And Whish most definitely provides a silky, moisturizing and soothing shave.

Purely Addictive
So, now I’ve tried a bunch of a flavors of Purely Decadent’s soy ice cream. I’m almost embarrassed to admit how many, but it was all in the name of research for my fellow “new dairy avoiders”, aka NDA.
NDA= someone who isn’t necessarily allergic to dairy, but does experience symptoms of lactose intolerance (I won’t list them here but if you must...

Tea Tree Oil vs. Ringworm
My junior year of college I had the great misfortune of getting ringworm. How a twenty-one year old student in a college town with no contact with small children managed to get ringworm while not a single other person I knew or lived with did is a mystery I don’t think the universe ever plans to explain. The thing was, I had never heard of ringworm.
To me, it was this little circular patch of...

Soy Vey! VegFamily Takes On Myths and Facts About...
Is it a miracle food? A wolf in vegan clothing? There are more than enough claims about the amazing benefits or the scary harmful potential effects of soy out there to make to say “hell with it” and just go to Chic-Fil-A. Thankfully, Christa of VegFamily.com is helping to decipher the onslaught of propaganda (on both sides) with her thoughtful, intelligently written and...

Fantastic New Beauty Info Site →
I get a lot of inquiries as to what my favorite source is for info regarding cosmetics ingredients and the answer is usually “well, from all over the place”. I go to Skin Deep’s Cosmetics Safety Database to get an overall idea of a product but, although it’s a great resource, their product ratings are only based on known studies so it’s not always entirely accurate....
A Purely Decadent Evening
Naturally, I left my $1 off coupon in the car when I went to Whole Foods after work today, but that didn’t stop me from getting another pint of Purely Decadent’s soy ice cream (you know, just to make sure the first one wasn’t a fluke). I finally decided on the Mint Chocolate Chip. No, I haven’t had dinner yet, but I can tell you that it is even better than the Turtle...
Ice Cream Insanity...There May Be a Cure
We’ve all heard this one before- What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. When it comes to ice cream, I am definitely a nutter.
Despite the knowledge that I’m lactose intolerant, that my skin looks a hundred times better when I avoid excess dairy and that even one cold, creamy, delectable scoop leaves me, well,...
How to Get Rich
My mom loves “The Donald”, she talks about him all the time. Nary a conversation takes place without her being able to tie it into something that happened to Donald once, or considering what Donald would do or asking if I’ve watched the Celebrity Apprentice - I just figured she was crushing and didn’t take it too seriously. I’ve never particularly thought about Mr....
H2Ohhhhhhhhh!
On a knockdown, take-no-prisoners mission to conquer mysterious (and serious) breakouts, oily-skin, lifeless hair, and other random but seemingly connected symptoms, I discovered some enlightening information about the benefits and dangers (who knew?) of water filters for showers.

Ask The Beauty Chick...
25, August 2009
Dear Beauty Chick, At a popular hair salon the stylist recommended that I use a hair oil to make my hair silkier, shinier and in better condition. It’s argan based which I’ve heard is good, and he told me it was natural, but there seem like an awful lot of chemical-sounding ingredients in it. I really liked the smell and how my hair looked when I used it but I’m...

Beauty Products I Don't Want to Live Without
29, July 2009
1. Mineral Makeup. The loose, 100% mineral kind. I custom blend my own for my self and my customers. i.d. BareMinerals is quite good as well. That being said, MINERAL MAKEUP HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. From oily, breakout prone skin to sensitive irritated skin, mineral makeup works on everyone beautifully. It covers, it blends, it glowifies (my favorite effect), and it has natural...
